SUN'S UP? NO? OKAY.
by INVERMON
Welp. Imagine leaving for home 12pm, grabbing a newspaper just to find out there’s a partial eclipse happening today. My bubble must be soundproof under the same rock Patrick Star lives in cause I don’t know shit!

Anyway, texting mum and brothers “do not look directly at the sun”… why?
Apparently your eyes have no pain receptors and the rays from an eclipse is the same as the pressure of squeezing a nylon full of water. Plus, the effects are latent and can lead to temporary or permanent eye loss. I’m not risking that.
But…

Maybe if I place my phone on selfie mode- didn’t work. iPhone quality is as bad as its pricing. Try recording a Timelapse video instead, see if that works. While you’re at it, watch it from the mirror, even better, use the mirror to reflect the sun and THEN, use your phone to watch it.

All terrible ideas, didn’t yield much. Endless efforts, zero avail. The phone did a slow motion video instead of a fast paced stream. Here I am with a two hour long video of the sun setting behind my neighbours’ balcony.

I had to bring the mirror back in and like a good boy, watch the news. Same shade of black and gold, same size. Nothing new. The last time there was an eclipse, I slept through it. I was a kid then.
Nothing new happens under the sun either. I just got to look past the trends and appreciate what I do have… (here comes the poetic justice everyone! Ready?)
me… him… us… two black sons staring at each other. One shines brighter while the other finds his light… and for this brief moment of staring into each other’s faces, I see him. Tiny. Empathetic. Naughty. Hyperactive. Imaginative. Young. Awesome. Gleeful. Loved.
Everything I hope to be again.
Hm.
