PROLOGUE: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF ENVY
by INVERMON
Two years. That's roughly how long I've spent making, remaking, questioning and occasionally dismantling this project. And now, with Prologue set to arrive on Thursday, I'm finding myself in a rather interesting position. I'm not entirely sure what to expect…

The project has undergone several treatments over the years. At its core, it's eight songs, with a couple of additions along the way. Some songs didn't make the final cut, and for good reason. They didn't necessarily belong. Sometimes, having too many ideas can be just as distracting as having too few.
I've always considered my ability to move between genres a blessing. The freedom to experiment, to borrow from different sounds and approaches, is something I value deeply. But I've also come to realise that diversity can become a distraction when there's no clear direction holding everything together. Not everything deserves a place simply because it sounds good.

I still don't know how people will receive this project. More importantly, I'm not entirely sure what I want people to take away from it. What I do know is that I want it to reflect a particular feeling: confusion in the face of uncertainty.
The world is seemingly falling apart, and somewhere in the middle of all that, I'm still trying to figure myself out. My place in things, what I believe in, what I'm becoming and whether any of it will make sense in the end.
Perhaps that's the closest thing to a thesis statement I can offer for Prologue.

There was a point when I intended to release this strictly as a digital album through Bandcamp. It had an earlier release date, and admittedly, things didn't quite gain the traction I'd hoped for. Eventually, I took it down.
But somewhere along the way, I became increasingly interested in the mechanics of branding, distribution and building something that could exist beyond the music itself. That process led me to developing my own website, which has since become the home for much of what I'm doing.
I'm also trying to cut down on the excesses. Too many platforms, too many directions, too many places to find me. I'd rather have somewhere centralised where people can keep up with the work, explore what I'm building and support it directly.
So, for the most part, invermon.com is live. If you'd like to support what I'm doing, that's where you can find me.

I don't know who I'll be by the time the next project comes around. I don't know what direction I'll take, what I'll sound like or what I'll find myself preoccupied with. But I'll make the best of wherever I end up.
For now, this is an introduction. Or perhaps a proper introduction, because there's a distinction. Prologue marks the beginning of something I've been building for quite some time: The Book of Envy.

And perhaps, for the first time, I'm ready to let people read a little.
